Tennis Racket Grip Selection
Good maneuverability of the tennis racquet depends, in part, on the proper grip size. The sizes available on the market are as follows:
- L0: Junior players under 10 years old
- L1 (4 1/8): Junior players aged 10–12 or women with short fingers
- L2 (4 1/4): Typically fits most women with a normal palm (distance from the tip of the middle finger to the base of the palm is 16–17 cm)
- L3 (4 3/8): Typically fits most men with a normal palm (17.5–18.5 cm)
- L4 (4 1/2): Fits men with larger palms or long fingers (19–20 cm)
If you're between two grip sizes, go with the smaller one and add an overgrip to reach the ideal fit. A typical overgrip increases the grip size by 1/16 inch and adds around 10g to the total weight.
A good rule of thumb: when you grip the handle (as shown in the photo), the distance between your fingers and palm should equal the thickness of your index finger.
